OYAK Maritime and Port Management Inc. has achieved a first in Türkiye’s port operations with its investment in AI powered next-generation cranes. The smart cranes to be commissioned at İsdemir Port will usher in a new era in operational efficiency, safety and sustainability.
Continuing its investments with the vision of becoming a global brand in port operations, OYAK Maritime and Port Management Inc. is preparing to commission AI-powered smart cranes as part of its Port Capacity Expansion Investment Program.
Within the scope of the investment program launched in 2022, two AI-powered next-generation cargo cranes have been delivered to İsdemir Port, and the commissioning process has begun. The installation of the smart cranes is ongoing, and they are scheduled to become operational as of April. Currently used only in the United States, China and India, AI-powered cranes will be introduced in Türkiye for the first time.
A First in Türkiye’s Port Operations
Commenting on the development, Emre Atay, General Manager of OYAK Maritime and Port Management Inc., stated:
“We are equipping our Grab Ship Unloader cranes, which are undergoing modernization, with artificial intelligence integration—marking a first in Türkiye’s port operations sector. Through this digital transformation initiative, we are not only maximizing our operational efficiency, but also optimizing our operational costs by minimizing failure risks through predictive maintenance systems. The most critical gain of our project is that it will elevate our occupational health and safety standards to the highest level through AI-supported monitoring mechanisms.”
Superior Efficiency through Digital Transformation
With the commissioning of AI-integrated smart cranes, OYAK Maritime and Port Management Inc. will also implement its Artificial Intelligence-Based Predictive Maintenance Project. The use of next-generation cranes marks a significant step in line with the company’s vision of digital transformation, technological leadership and sustainability.
About the AI-Based Predictive Maintenance Project
The system analyzes real-time data collected from next-generation AI-powered cranes using machine learning algorithms, enabling the prediction of potential failures before they occur. This approach maximizes operational continuity, safety and efficiency.
While redefining efficiency and safety standards in the port industry, the project significantly enhances the port’s technological infrastructure and competitiveness. It directly contributes to operational efficiency targets without creating additional cost burdens.
Key Advantages of the AI-Based Predictive Maintenance Project:
- Ensures operational continuity and cost efficiency
- Enhances occupational health and safety
- Extends asset lifecycle
- Increases efficiency
- Reduces downtime costs
