A Strategic Cooperation and Service Agreement was signed between OYAK and the Somali Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy.
In the presence of Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, Chief of the General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, Somali Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, OYAK Chairman Zekai Aksakallı, and representatives of the relevant ministries, the Strategic Cooperation and Service Agreement was signed by Somali Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy Ahmed Hassan Aden and OYAK CEO Murat Yalçıntaş.
Within the scope of the agreement, and in line with the understanding reached between OYAK and the Somali National Fishing Company, the company SOMTURK was established in Somalia on December 11, 2025. Within the framework of managing all licensing processes related to fisheries activities in Somalia’s Exclusive Economic Zone, SOMTURK will provide support to the Somali Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy.
The Strategic Cooperation and Service Agreement will not only enable the sustainable utilization of Somalia’s rich marine resources, but will also provide the Turkish fisheries sector with access to Somali waters, which are among the world’s most abundant fishing reserves.
Supporting sustainable return objectives
The Strategic Cooperation and Service Agreement is expected to strengthen economic, commercial, and technical cooperation between the two countries, while also establishing a revenue model that supports OYAK’s sustainable return objectives. Within the scope of the agreement, the goals also include increasing employment through the development of fish processing and supporting activities, strengthening the local economy, and ensuring that the value added is reflected in the welfare of the Somali people.
