The new hub for global automotive logistics. The first expedition to OYAK's automotive-oriented Ro-Ro port
The first trial expedition successfully took place at the joint port launched by OYAK Denizcilik ve Liman İşletmeleri A.Ş. in partnership with the Japanese NYK Line in Körfez district of Kocaeli to work with all brands. Ro-Ro Port will serve in international standards and is set to become the new hub of global automotive logistics.
The first international trial expedition to the Ro-Ro Port, one of Turkey's most important needs, took place. Imported vehicles were unloaded at the port in the first expedition starting from Constanta (Romania) and successfully completed in the Körfez Area. The Ro-Ro Port, which has been under construction since 2019, will become the export and import gateway for international automotive brands following its official opening in the coming days.
Will make significant contributions to the country’s economy
The port, which was launched in cooperation with the Japanese giant NYK, will meet the new needs and demands of the automotive industry, the flagship of Turkish exports, and will make a significant contribution to the Turkish economy. With an annual capacity of 780,000 vehicles and a total indoor parking space of 265,000 square meters, the port will serve only the automotive industry, and the Ro-Ro Port, which was established for the first time in Turkey with a foreign partner, is also the largest port in its field.
International automotive logistics route changes in April
Noting that the successful completion of the first trial expedition was a historic moment for the international automotive industry, OYAK General Manager Süleyman Savaş Erdem said, “We have successfully completed a crucial step in our journey with NYK Line, one of the world's most established and largest maritime companies. We were also proud that all the processes of the first expedition were carried out in collaboration with OYAK Group Companies. This investment will be a solution to Turkey's very important need and is also a testament to our confidence in the automotive industry. I hope that our port, which will soon become the hub for international automotive logistics by changing its route, will bring good luck to our country.”
Low cost of maritime transport increases the potential of Ro-Ro ports
Maritime transport accounts for 90 percent of total transportation, and is increasingly in demand around the world as the lowest-cost transportation method. In addition to its cost advantage, it is observed that the companies prefer multimodal transportation with Ro-Ro ports, which the potential has increased as countries move towards marine and rail transportation in order to achieve environmental sustainability. In addition to this, a policy change that would reduce the road transport and encourage and increase marine transport is planned in the European Union, Turkey's most important export market.
