Erdemir's Steel Revived In The Hands Of Students

The winners of the 5th Erdemir Steel and Life Sculpture Competition organized by Ereğli Demir ve Çelik Fabrikaları T.A.Ş. (Erdemir) were announced. A total of 18 projects were awarded at the ceremony held in Tophane-i Amire. Berke Uysal from the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University won the first prize with his work “How Was Childhood”, Ömer Kasımoğlu from the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University won the second prize with his work “Tempus Fugit”, and Alena Firsanova from the Anadolu University won the third prize with her work ’Childhood’. 

Winners of the 5th Steel and Life Sculpture Competition organized by Ereğli Demir ve Çelik Fabrikaları T.A.Ş. (Erdemir), a group company of OYAK Mining Metallurgy Group, in cooperation with the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University were announced. At the award ceremony of the competition at Tophane-i Amire which was organized this year with the theme of “Steel and Child/Childhood”, 18 sculpture works selected among 107 applications were awarded. As a result of the evaluation, Berke Uysal from the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, won the first prize with his work “How Was Childhood”, Ömer Kasımoğlu won the second price with his work “Tempus Fugit”, and Alena Firsanova from the Anadolu University won the third prize with her work “Childhood”. The other 15 sculptures won the Honorable Mention Award, the Jury Special Award and the Erdemir Special Award.

At the art competition organized by Erdemir to encourage and support young talents in the area of sculpture, winner of the competition of 10 thousand TL, while the second prize winner received 7 thousand 500 TL, third prize winner received 5 thousand TL, Honorable Mention Prize winners received 3 thousand TL, Jury Special Award and Erdemir Special Award winners received 2 thousand TL. In addition to this, 16 sculptures were found worth exhibiting.

In his message he delivered to the ceremony, OYAK Mining Metallurgy Group President Toker Özcan said: “We draw attention to the indispensable place of the steel we produce as Erdemir, and we develop projects in all areas that will contribute to the development of our country. Art is one of these areas. We believe that a country can only develop with art and science. With this belief, we launched our Steel and Life Sculpture Competition in 2005 in cooperation with the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in order to support art education in our country, and to encourage and support young talents in the area of sculpture. In this competition where steel from Erdemir is used, each work was processed in detail and as a result of these efforts, steel met the art. I would like to thank all of our students for their contribution and congratulate the young people who have won the award.”

A total of 107 undergraduate and graduate students from the sculpture department of all universities applied to the competition which was organized with the theme of “Steel and Child/Childhood” this year.Works of the winners will be exhibited in the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Tophane-i Amire Culture and Art Center Single Dome Hall (Tek Kubbe Salonu) until July 5, 2019.
